Guaranteed Spring Black Bear hunt, that you will have an opportunity to harvest an adult black bear. If you don't have an opportunity, we will offer you a free bear the following year. The province of Quebec has the largest population of black bears in North America and Canada, excluding Alaska. A black bear is the most affordable hunt of all the North Amercan big game. The season for spring black bear is in May and June. This time of the year there is no other season open for big game. We hunt a 2500 square mile territory with exclusive black bear hunting rights, located approximately 250 miles North East of Montreal. For the past 10 consecutive years, Cooper Camp has been able to maintain a very high success rate with some bears weighing over 350 and even 400 pounds. To help sustain the black bear population, we rotate the different hunting grounds, ensuring a quality hunt year after year. For the upcoming season, we are promoting the trophy hunt, with our Black Bear Bonanza. We have chosen to spare cubs and females as much as possible. Hunters bagging females or cubs will be automatically disqualified from the contest. Our hunts will take place from the end of May and the whole month of June. We will host a maximum of 10 to 12 hunters a week. We have bear camps North of Montreal, Cooper bear camp is 6 hours North of Montreal. Lavigeur camp bear camp is 5 hours North of Montreal and Windigo bear camp is 4 North of Montreal. All of these camps you can drive to. Each camp has approximately 95 bait sites for 45-50 hunters for the season. For the past 5 years we have been able to maintain a 100% success rate. Thirty of these baits have been in a new area, never hunted before. We bait our baits every day, and will only kill one bear on each bait. I have use over 9 tons of cookies, and 2 tons of meat each year in my baiting. We keep our baits well baited to hold the bear in the area. The average weight of the bear is 185 to 200 pounds. If this same bear was harvested in the fall, it would be a 240 lb bear average. PA is known for taking some of the largest black bear in the United States, they will harvest a coulple bear that weigh over 700 lbs. every year, in Canada we don't harvest bears weighing 700 lbs. Our average weight of our bears are higher than what the PA Game Commission reports. They claim their average weight of their bear for the year is approx. 145 lbs. You have to take into consideration, there are a lot of 6 month old cubs that are harvested every year, this goes into their average percentage. he Canadian Game Commission reports that the bear license's sold in Quebec, reflect a 55% kill. Most of these hunters hunt without outfitters. The Canadian hunters usually go unguided. If you choose to hunt with us, I've been averaging 100% opportunity to harvest a bear. I will guarantee you an opportunity to harvest an adult bear, if not you can return free the following year. |
